Sawfish Survey near Eramurra

Murdoch University researchers from the Harry Butler Institute completed surveys for sawfish and associated species near the Eramurra Solar Salt Project area. The survey was conducted in a 4.5 m survey vessel managed by Murdoch University, and consisted of gillnetting, seine netting, and visual surveys by drone and boat.

An acoustic transmitter was on hand to measure and tag any sawfish caught, which will provide us with information on spatial use of the area by sawfish and transmit information about body temperature and depth to acoustic receivers in the area.

Our thanks to Assoc. Prof. David Morgan and the team at the Freshwater Fish Group & Fish Health Unit at Murdoch University for their commitment to completing these works for Leichhardt’s environmental impact assessment.
