Surveying at Eramurra

The start of 2023 sees Pendoley Environmental at Eramurra conducting another turtle survey.  A drone is being used flying east and west along the coast taking photos every few seconds.  The photos are then stitched together creating one clear shot of the length of the beach along 40 Mile, which allows the environmental scientists to accurately see if there are any flatback and green turtle nests.  This work, alongside the hatchling surveys, will be used to determine the significance of the beaches near Eramurra and nearby islands for turtle nesting and to complete the light impact assessment for the environmental approvals process.  I'm sure you will agree, the photos produced from the drone are spectacular.

By no means is this an easy task, thanks to the unforgiving Pilbara sunshine…. it has been reported by our team that temperatures have been around 47°C with 99% humidity on some days.
