Leichhardt’s proud association with Salt Junior Soccer Club

Leichhardt has always been committed to actively engage with and support local community organisations, sporting groups and events in Karratha and the wider Pilbara region. As a solar salt project, Leichhardt’s decision to partner with the aptly named Salt Junior Soccer Club seemed too good to an opportunity to pass up! As a premier sponsor for the 2022 season, Leichhardt is excited to facilitate the purchase of the newly designed playing shirts for their young athletes.

Salt Junior Soccer Club was established in 1977 as Dampier Salt Soccer Club and a way for the workers to embrace the game of soccer and let off some steam after a hard day’s work. As Karratha began to grow, there was no longer a demand for a senior competition, but there was a demand for a junior competition as more families began to call Karratha home.  For the 2022 season the club has 139 registered payers which make up 15 teams over 12 age groups. In 2019 a girls only competition was established, and Salt is proud to be well represented across the 4 age groups.  With the season now in full swing, Salt is on the move for finals spots. With its new look, talented players and dedicated volunteers they should shape up well against the other five clubs that make up the Karratha District Junior Soccer Association - Baynton, Dampier, Glory, Nickol and Wickham.

“Salt Junior Soccer Club is a really special grassroots community organisation that provides a valuable platform for emerging talent to not only feel at home and valued as part of the club but the opportunity to develop into representative players, referees and coaches.  We take pride in our club and would like to thank Leichhardt for their sponsorship of our new look playing shirts. The players are going to take great pleasure in wearing these and feel the spirit of Salt Soccer.” said Renae Cork, Club President.

Leichhardt CEO, Nathan Douglas, said he was proud to support Salt Junior Soccer Club this season.

“We’re excited for the 2022 season and are looking forward to seeing our name on the back of the shirts after a few goals have gone in!” said Nathan.

“Sporting groups that bring people together are integral to local communities, particularly in remote regional towns. We’re proud to support Salt Junior Soccer Club and wish the players and volunteers the best of luck for the 2022 season.”
