Salt Project could be big for region

Article by Caitlyn Watts at Pilbara News

A potential $280 million solar salt facility that could create construction opportunities and jobs has been mooted for the Pilbara.

Leichhardt Industrials has started a feasibility study into the project at Eramurra, 55km south-west of Karratha. It would mark the first salt development for the region in decades.

The company aims to produce at least 2.4 million tonnes a year of highest-grade chemical salt for export to the expanding Asia-Pacific chemical markets.

Leichhardt managing director John Canaris said the project would create 70 full-time skilled jobs for locals, with no fly-in fly-out employment involved.
