Project Overview
Leichhardt Solar Salt Project
Asian-Pacific Industrial Salt Demand is Rapidly Growing.
Global growth is driven by Asia-Pacific chemical market, producing PVC, ingredients for foods and many other industrial products and processes.
Predicted Salt Supply Shortfall of 20Mt by 2027.
Global production has been traditionally dominated by Australia’s big five Pilbara operations with virtually no new Australian development.
Multi-Million Solar Salt Project Proposed.
The Eramurra Solar Salt Project targets at least 4 million tons of high-grade chemical salt produced per annum, targeting this shortfall.
World Class Best Practice, Hi-Spec, Low-Cost Solar Salt.
The Project incorporates innovative layout and production techniques for the world’s highest-grade industrial solar salt product for export, ensuring Eramurra and the Pilbara maintains competitiveness into the future.
Environmentally Conscious Solar Salt Production.
Solar salt is derived from the evaporation of seawater using sunlight and wind energy. Leichhardt is working with bird experts and universities to design the evaporation ponds for roosting and foraging areas for all birdlife.
Social Responsibility with Sustainability Focus
The Project incorporates robust community and environment focuses, with particular sensitivity to recreational foreshore, public camping grounds, Aboriginal heritage, social and environmental management.
